An urban winter wedding
Katrina & Matthew
January 10, 2026 in Montreal, Canada
Katrina & Matthew wanted a fairytale wedding, filled with vibes à la Beauty and the Beast. Gold, silver, candles and a princess gown? Say less... I'm so in.
When we first spoke, the connection was immediate. Our conversation centered on their desire to stay grounded and present at their wedding, despite having a large guest count and a busy timeline. I felt such kinship with Katrina and Matt. I saw two people who wanted beautiful wedding photos without having them take over. I was determined to make that happen.
At their engagement session, we bonded immediately over our love of animals (especially dogs and penguins) and all things Disney. I walked away from that session thinking "damn, these are my people."
The girls were a blast the morning of the wedding, not taking themselves too seriously and not afraid to let laughs loose while they got ready.
Matt spent the morning with his family, his closest friends, and Katrina's brothers. His anticipation for seeing Katrina for the first time was palpable.
Their reveal was truly something special. I'm not usually one to get emotional, but the way Matt looked at Katrina... it struck a chord. Their love is gentle, kind and true. It was important to me that they were given space and time to revel in such a profound moment together.
When it came time for couple portraits, I could sense that Katrina was questioning our initial plan of going into the animal exhibits. Between her big skirt, the crowds and the slight time crunch we had, I felt like we needed to pivot. I suggested we use the beautiful lobby space instead, and they were both happy to try. In 15 minutes, we created a beautiful array of portraits that feel effortless, classy and tender.
As a result, we caught ourselves up and were able to get to their venue on time with no hiccups!
Because they did a first look earlier in the day, we were able to take all their formal portraits with their families and wedding party before their ceremony.
The ceremony was highly intentional. Katrina's brother officiated. Matthew's niece and nephew were the ring bearer and flower girl, and walked down the aisle with his grandmother. Katrina's mother gave her away. The couple shared beautifully raw, powerful vows.
Their reception was a total dreamscape. The room was filled with candles and white florals. Gold and silver accents spilled over every surface. It felt magical.
Katrina and Matthew were fully grounded at the reception, soaking in their new marriage and celebrating with their guests.
I was amazed by how much they cared about their guests' experience. Even with a wedding of 150+ people, they spoke to every single person. There was so much love in that room.
The energy on that dance floor was unmatched.
Theirs was a first dance for the ages. There wasn't a dry eye in the place.
The speeches given by their loved ones carried such emotion and genuity. It's so special that every tear, every hug and every look have been preserved for them.
As our time at the wedding came to close, there was one last event we captured that will stay with me for years to come.
Katrina's three older brothers took turns dancing with Katrina in an honorary father-daughter dance, in commemoration of their late father. During the dance, they played a video montage with photos of their dad and family. It was a mixed bag of emotions; love, appreciation, grief, loss, gratitude... I'll never forget what that felt like.
Yes, their day was aesthetically beautiful. But that's not what made Katrina and Matt's wedding day special. It was every way that they showed care for each other, for their guests. It was how they chose to spend their time. It was how they honoured loved ones who couldn't be there. Documenting it all was such a treat.
